5 Easy Ways to Keep Your Feet Cool This Summer…

We spend all the autumn-winter months counting down to warmer weather, however as soon as it’s here, we rapidly remember all the discomfort and struggles that come with the warmer climate. The warmer months provide the perfect opportunity to swap heavy winter boots for light summer sandals, but with glorious sunshine can come swollen feet, bad odours and so much more. Warm weather can be tough on our feet.

As the mercury rises, our feet try desperately to keep cool. We have a quarter of a million sweat glands in our feet, and all of these work hard to try and keep the skin at just the right temperature. Although swelling can be annoying, it’s also important to look out for signs your feet are sweating, as this can result in fungal infections.

At Footcare UK, we want you to get through the summer months in comfort, so we have compiled our top tips to keep your feet feeling cool this summer, there’s even a few product recommendations that will help.

1. Use Cooling Pads

One of our favourite tips, and one you will definitely turn to time and time again is to use cooling pads. One of the easiest ways to cool down is to apply cold to your wrists or feet.

Versatile Theraflex pads can be kept in the freezer and provide a cooling sensation to your body. They’re inexpensive, fast and effective and can also provide pain relief should you need it.

Or, if you don’t have time to order Theraflex, simply take a hot water bottle and fill it with water, then put it in the freezer. It won’t last as long as the relief from Theraflex, but will still provide some relief from the heat. Just make sure you don’t overfill it, as you don’t want it to burst. Then, after a few hours, take it out and you have your very own giant cooling pad, you can place it at the bottom of your bed, or just rest your feet on it as you wind down for the evening.

2. Keep On Top Of Foot Hygiene

Keeping on top of your foot hygiene can help your feet and reduce the chances of feet overheating. During summer months make sure you wash your feet morning and night, this will help remove sweat and bacteria. We also recommend making sure that your socks and footwear are suitable for the summer months. For shoes, make sure they are made of leather as it’s much more breathable than some other options. For socks, make sure they breathe and wick moisture from your feet, look for socks made from wool, bamboo, nylon or polyester.

3. Invest In a Cooling Foot Product

We recommend investing in the Fizzy Gel Foam by Saicara, this unique product cools down the skin and offers a refreshing experience for the body, neck, calves and feet. The fast absorbing, crackling ice foam cooling spray has a unique fizz and pop sensation and helps to relieve swelling and refresh hot skin.

4. Keep Feet Moisturised & Exfoliated

This doesn’t just keep your feet looking pretty, it can also prevent a whole load of other footcare problems such as cracked heels. Exfoliate your feet using a foot file, scrub or pumice stone, and finish with a cream containing peppermint oil, this will help refresh your feet after a long, hot day.

5. Drink Plenty Of Water

The summer months are a recipe for dehydration. Did you know that when you’re dehydrated your blood becomes thicker; this can affect your circulation and result in swelling. If your feet are already swollen, make sure you keep them elevated above the rest of your body.

By making the most of our top tips, you can be sure that your feet will stay cool and comfortable this summer.
